Ian Shott CBE is the co-founder, majority owner, Chairman and Managing Director of Arcinova, a Contract Research and Development company specialising in Pharmaceuticals and the Life Sciences. He is also the Managing Partner of Shott Trinova through which he invests in, chairs and leads a portfolio of life science businesses. In 2004 he founded Excelsyn, a Pharmaceutical Development business, which he sold to US multinational AMRI in 2010. Ian previously held several global leadership positions, with multi-national life science companies (ICI, AstraZeneca, Lonza, ChiRex and Rhodia) and was located in the UK, Switzerland, USA and France. He was involved in introducing highly successful step change growth strategies at all of these companies over the last three decades. He joined the Governing Board of Innovate UK, in August 2011 and chairs the Catapult Committee.

A past President of the Institution of Chemical Engineers he is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, creating the Enterprise Hub and chairing the Enterprise Committee. He started up, and was the Chair of the UK’s Leadership Forum for Industrial Biotechnology was made CBE for services to Chemical Engineering in 2009, receiving an Honorary Doctorate from Nottingham University in 2010 and has Honorary Professorships at Newcastle University (2005), Nottingham University (2014) and Oxford University (2015). During 2013 he helped form the Chemistry Growth Partnership working with government to deliver Economic Growth and has an overview responsibility for Accelerated Innovation.

He was appointed a Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology in August 2013. He also led the formation, and was then appointed Chair, of the Scottish Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre in January 2014.
